Burgess Park is split in two parts West & East side. This event is located on the East side of Burgess Park towards Old Kent Road - The nearest roads are Wells Way, Thurlow Street & St. George's Way.

For people with differing abilities needing wheelchair access, the event is all on one level which can be accessed from any path direction. On site parking for disabled badge holders is free, please show your valid blue badge on arrival, if you require more information please contact us.

PARKING AT THE FESTIVAL

VEHICLES

Limited Blue Badge parking is available, event attendees are encouraged to take local transportation to the event. Parking is limited on the surrounding roads.

BIKES & SCOOTERS

Safe parking is available for bikes & scooters to be left on site. On arrival just check it in & come back for it when you are ready to leave.

ACCESS & THE FESTIVAL

We try to provide as much information as possible for accessibility at our venue.
If you require a Personal Assistant, Hearing Assistant or Carer, we offer a free PA ticket for events held by Radiate Festival so that you can be accompanied to enjoy the event.

Accessible Parking

If you require accessible parking it will be allocated on a first come first served basis please present your blue badge on arrival.

Carer/PA Tickets

If you require free access for your Personal Assistant we will require one of the following forms of evidence which can be shown on the door to the ticketing manager

Accessible Toilets

If you require accessible toilets there will be a number of accessible toilet units located within the event for use. If you do not have assistance and require some please ask at the information points where someone will be happy to assist.

ENTERING THE FESTIVAL

This is a family event so there are not any restrictions on entry, however if you're under 14 you should be attending with a parent / guardian, or responsible person if they look under 18 we may ask them to prove their age as a responsible adult accompanying minors. 

ENTRY GATES

Open at 12 noon the last entry is 7pm - Please note there will be no refunds for tickets holders, who are unable to attend

SEARCH

All entrants will be subject to a bag and body search by security staff. This will also include a metal wand along with a pat down by security officers

SAFETY

Drugs, Weapons, Violence and Anti-Social behaviour will not be tolerated. Security and Police will be on hand to deal with any incidents and further action will be taken

BUYING ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO

A challenge 21 policy will be in place for all alcohol, tobacco & age restricted products on the event site. If you look under 21, we will need ID from you or we cannot sell you a drink/tobacco/age restricted products.

The only accepted proof of age documents are:

• A Passport (Not a photocopy)
• Driving Licence
• A Proof of Age Card bearing a PASS hologram
• A Ministry of Defence identity card
• A National Identity card issued by an EU member state

FOOD

There will be a choice of food vendors who are open all day inside the event site with food options for sale. A SMALL AMOUNT OF PERSONAL FOOD IS PERMITTED - You can bring in your snacks & special dietry items which are permitted for personal consumption. Please do not bring any big oversized food hampers, coolers or ice/hot boxes - We do not want you to be disappointed at refused entry.

We have asked food vendors to provide some affordable food options to enable you to stay with us all day.

DRINKS

There will be fully licensed bars on site. Alcohol is NOT permitted from customers into the event grounds or surroundings during the event day.

No drinks will be admitted on site except unopened bottled water. Empty NON-GLASS bottles sized 1000ml or less will be permitted for refilling of water and purchased drinks

Please don't bring any alcohol or glass containers/bottles of any sort.

What happens to lost items

If you have lost anything at the Radiate Windrush Festival please contact info@radiatefestival.com and describe the item in detail

Items will be kept safely for up to 28 days after the festival ends

Why was this Festival created?

The idea to create the Radiate Windrush Festival was formed in 2017. The goal was to produce a black owned and run festival, which would reflect intersectionality of subcultural groups across the Caribbean and Africa, whilst highlighting the obvious merge with British culture itself. It also aimed to highlight the often overshadowed Creole elements in the Black Community. Once launched it became the annual celebration to also acknowledge the newly formed National Windrush Day created in 2018.

Who Created the Festival?

Founded by a grass-roots entrepreneur Wendy & her small tribe of friends, the vision was set in motion to deliver London’s first large-scale Windrush Festival. It was important to present a festival which used the Windrush as a core narrative to express the relevance of black history in Britain.

“We wanted to help shape the ongoing generational legacy of the UK’s Black Communities & create something to be enjoyable for a range of people across all community, delivered exclusively from the black perspective. For many decades, multiculturalism & popular culture has leveraged itself on various aspects of ‘blackness’ without necessarily attributing it back to the communities it was taken from, or allowing them to equitably celebrate as freely in our social, outdoor & open spaces.”

Why is it not free?

The Radiate Windrush Festival is not a grant funded event or a major sponsored festival. It is self-funded by the founder Wendy. If you want to sponsor, get in touch.
